Unable to open glove compartment Mondeo Estate?

Hi
My glove compartment in my 2000 mondeo xetec estate refuses to open, it looks as if the handle has disconnected from the lock. Is there any easy way to open this apart from ripping it open!

Andy, the same thing has just happened to me nov 07. Did you manage to open yours since Aug 06 or did you have to buy a new glove compartment? Mine is a Mondeo Zetec 2001. Margaret
