bobbin winder on my brother sewing machine sticks?

I have a brother xl-6062, the bobbin winder keeps sticking when winding? How can this be fixed?

Either the winder rubber has worn down slightly on one side so that part does not connect with the balance wheel, or there is some sort of residue on the rubber oir thge winder is in the throws of seizing up but you will need to get to the winder to check
