How do I adjust the handbrake cable correctly?

I have a 1996/7 ("P" reg) Ford Fiesta 1.8 Diesel. I need to adjust the handbrake cable as it is getting slightly loose and was flagged at the last MOT i had. I have read the Haynes manual and it says to adjust the handbrake to the 6th notch and then adjust the adjuster nut to the appropriate torque. However, it doesn't spcify what this should be!

MY question is..... what torque do I need to adjust it to?

u need to back the cable ajuster off first, then take the rear drums off & ajust the rear brakes inside the drums.put the drums back on then retighten the handbrake ajuster till u got about 5 or 6 clicks
