boiler needs up to 10 tries before firing properly. Why?

problem ---- boiler has between 6 and 10 tries at igniting before it bursts into life, then working perfectly. Ideas on what may be cause please.
-- does ignition electrode need replacing?
Had boiler since 1997, with regular servicing!
