my fridge dosnt stop running I have set to number 1 the warmest?

I have an ER 8034I built in Electrolux Fridge/Freezer.
The fridge is set to no 1 the warmest setting as it is overfreezing and sometimes not defosting..is the thermostat or the defrost timer the likely cause ??

on the back of the fridge wall is it cold from top to bottom?.if it is only icy on the top this colud be your issue.system blockage or a gas issue.thermostat senses the lower part of the back wall
