sometimes my Zanussi jetstream 1200 won't switch on?

Please can anyone help. I have no manual and can't fathom out why sometimes the on button won't switch on.

is the on/off switch faulty?
some have a switch in the middle as a crude child lock.Make sure it is in the correct position
