How can we fix our Smeg A42 oven?

Large oven has stopped working no heat, but the fan still works. It's about 10 years old. If it can be fixed would we be able to do it ourselves. Thanks.

hi,there are three components controlling the main oven on your A42,the most common failure is the heating element, that sits around the circulation fan, behind the rear panel inside the oven compartment.a multimeter will help you to diagnose a fault or open circuit on said element.you can check either using the ohms or continuity setting on the multimeter.the second most common failure is the main lower thermostat, followed by the main oven function switch.all these parts can be purchased from www.espares.co.uk 2700watt element part#806890386 £38.99 main oven function switch part#811730180 £42.99 main oven thermostat part#818370461 £36.99 all parts are genuine smeg parts hope you find this info useful :)

the element is gone, you need to take it out and get a new one the same shape/and power. at the hardwear. you need to have (NO) power going to the cooker. when working on it, knock the main fuse off, that the back off , see if you can see the element, that a photo of were the 3 wires go, take out the element , take it to the hardwear, get the new one , and replace it , useing the photo, make very sure all the power is off when working on it, you can put the power back on, when you have the element out, but dont turn on or use the cooker, till you have replaced the element. just be safe, and you will be fine..
