How can I fix my Cruise control?

I have an Audi A4 2006 2L TDSI bought 2nd hand from a dealer. I had a cruise control unit fitted by their after market specialist and now that the warranty is out it has stopped working and the 3rd party guy wont even take a look at it. However, he did say that most likely cause was a brocken switch on the clutch or break peddle..??

Any ideas on how to diagnose n fix this or any other suggestions for what to look for would be greatfully received.

Steve thanks for your reply but Im not a mechanically minded person but can tackle simple diy stuff -

1. by stalk do you mean the controler on the stearing column..??

changing this and cabling what to where - sounds like a nightmare

2. Vagcom...??

all you do is change stalk and a bit of wiring.Vagcom can usually see data when operating them.Switches on brake and clutch is good place to start.don't understand guy who fitted it not wanting to sort it though.ODD!!!
get a vagcom lead to run on a laptop and scan your own car
