Garter Carriage will not do knit stitch only yarn over needles selected for?
GC will purl stitches but not knit. Have GC 89 on a Brother 940,have changed needle and tried different pattern number. On second row all stitches are dropped

Have you checked that the garter carriage is level on the needlebed? As you have changed the needle, it would appear that that is not the problem.
