How do you fix a motor on a Kitchen Aid blender "KSB3WH3"?

My Kitchen Aid blender makes a humming noise when the buttons are pressed, but nothing happens. Do you think the problem is with the motor?

The humming suggests that the motor is trying to run but something is stopping it - there may well be a problem with the gears linking the motor to the mixing blade.
