cistern constantly fills and runs into toilet pan?

Our Toilet cistern is a Macdee push button type and the following numbers are on the fittings. DVE0600: AFV40100 and AFV40200. The water is constantly running into the tank but, not filling it. The water runs through into the pan. What is the cause of this and how do we fix it.

I do not think Rich is necessarily right. He refers to overfilling the tank. The problem could be that the seal does not return to close the tank exit into the bowl. This has happened to us in Dorset because of the very hard water and scale deposits. Where can I find a drawing of the system so I can take it to pieces and either add something to dissolve the scale or clean it off physically.

You need to take the top off and adjust the float height.
