The drum is loose on my whirlpool washing machine and its making a banging noise what has caused this and how do i repair it

Something broken. Either the bearings have collapsed or the spider shaft broken. Major job to dismantle machine & find out. You will need a service company if you really want to spend a lot of money & fix it. Not really a DIY job.
