I need a picture to help me fix a basic gate lock?

I have a Yale rim lock, with just a key hole accessible from both sides (no handle, no handle hole) I fitted the lock onto the side gate. But then I locked my self out the house and forced open the side gate (whilst drunk) so then I needed fix the lock on the side gate, as it was a bit bent. I straightened it all out but whilst opening the lock (once removed from the gate) the feather spring fell out, so i played around with it and kind of did my best to guess how the spring should be but ever since I put it back on the side gate I have a problem, the latch does not fully open and can also turn the key in a circle so it becomes locked or only half open, so I spend ages trying to get the lock to clear the plate that it locks outward onto. I think I have not put the spring in properly but I cannot find any helpful tips online. I need a picture to show me. I know where to buy some more feather springs but mine lock is quite new and its a bit too expensive to need buy a new lock for me right now too. I just need know how to fit the spring in correctly. I would really appreciate your help.
