My doorlocking mechanism is faulty and I have to bang the machine before it will lock the door and start a cycle.

I want to have a look at the mechanism and see if it needs replacing, but can see no way of getting behind the door seal (which seems the logical way).

Do I need to take off any of the panels?

Interlock will not be repairable, sealed unit, need to replace it....you should be able to replace it by removing the sprung wire holding the door rubber on the front, then peeling back the rubber so you can reach in and pull the door lock out through the door way. As always unplug machine first.
