Why did my electric drill suddenly stop running?

While using an older model 3/8 inch variable speed, reversing B & D electric drill, model #7127 (rpm 0-2500 - type 1 - 3 amp) for an extended period of time (to grid clean several brass candle holders), it suddenly stopped running. Is there an internal fuse that could have blown? If not, what are some other possibilities? Regarding each of these, would it be worth the time and expense of attempting a repair -- either by me, or an outside professional?

I have an electric drill (Roya: M1275 Rotary tool) that doesn't work after I took it apart to clean and put WD-40 in it. There isn't any part missing. What did I do wrong?

check the brushes on the comutator inside the drill
when used for a long period of time, they heat up and stick and will not move forward as they ware down.
they should move freely. you may just have to pull them off the comutator about 1/16th of an inch and let them snap back down. make sure the spring is pushing down on them.
