Why won't my Mountfield HT 55 start?

My Mountfield HT55 hedge trimmer wouldn't start - I traced the fault to a leaking primer bulb. I've replaced the bulb with a new one and it won't pull any fuel from the tank, which has plenty of fuel in it. What's going on?

Are you sure the pump is connected the right way round? It should pull the fuel from the tank through the carburettor. I made this mistake!

maybe the pipe is blocked or kinked
