How can I repair my phone?

I have a BT Studio 5500 Plus everything seems to be working fine however when I make a call there is no dial tone, it does ring in, but you cannot hear anyone. Any help would be appreciated.

Check the battery contacts are nice and clean:

If it's old. A new set of batteries might be a good idea. NiMh and NiCd don't last indefinitely
