i am getting a message saying system fault sky+ recording and playback unavailable itia a pace box phoned sky they told me to reboot system this didnt work

you will lose your recored programes by doing the following but it should get your box up and running till the next time it screws up.

1) re-boot,
2) press sevices on remote
3) 04 system setup
4) 01 Select
5) 08 reset

sky will always say to reboot the box, did you unplug and wait the 30 seconds??? if that doesnt work get back the phone to them as it is their responsability to fix it. They have been on watchdog because they have had so many problems with them. I had problems with sky, you have to keep moaning to them and eventually they will replace it, i moned so much they gave me 6 months free viewing!!
