how do i change the flapper valve?

i have a standard uk type cistern..
can i change the flapper valve without having to remove the siphon from the cistern..

Unfortunately there are a lot of different types out there. However I haven't come across one where you do not have to remove the siphon. BTW, the latest plastic types do not have replaceable flap valves - you have to replace the whole thing but they are only about ten quid complete.
