How can I fix my Electric Kettle, Russell and Hobbs ,model 3105?

How can I fix my Russell Hobbs Electric Kettle shut off switch. The kettle still works but the shut off switch gets hot and sometimes doesn't switch off!! This model 3105 was made in Great Britain and holds 1.7 litres but uses 120v (North American voltage and plug). It is made of stainless steel and has a lid. The handle is white though and gracefully arches to the back and encompasses awater level. I believe I bought it about 1980 from Eatons (a department store)

I have since found a source for switches in the UK. Contact me if you would like one.

I have the same kettle but my switch has completely quit. The shut switch runs like a points system on a car and with electrical arching every time it switches the points get rough. That is probably causing your inconsistancies. You could take the switch apart and clean up the contact points. That may make it better for a while but after time they just wear out. I have been looking in the UK for some time and can not find a new switch. If you want to tackle the cleaning get back to me and I will give you some tips. The down side is some of the parts get brittle and taking it apart may cause bigger problems. If it is working now you may want to leave it along.
Good luck.
