i cant use limewire because of my firewall?

i have a dell xps m1210 with windows xp pro. and everytime i try to use limewire, it just keeps trying to connect and wont, ive narrowed it down to two possible problems, it's either because of my firewall, or somthing that im overlooking about the fact that im using a wireless connection. what makes me think this is the fact that i cant even connect to internet explorer through windows media, and any file that i get that installs a set up onto my computer that needs to connect to the internet, wont work. i dont understan, ive tryed everything with my firewall that i can find to change. i mean, it works on all my friend's comps. but yeah, thats my problem. please help me...

oh god..

right.. find problem first. Wireless router! Can you access the router? You use a web browser and the address is something like 192.168.1.0 (for example). If no little log in box appears you will need a bit of cat5 cable to connect your computer to the router manually. If you have the drivers installed properly it will connect automatically using above address (or the correct one like it).

Once you can "talk" to the router, access the setup program in the router (login admin/admin is common) and turn off any security for the wireless. Use the connections manager to search for a wireless connection. If it works ok then you need to set up the security (follow instructions.. psk string is easiest and best). If not you need to reinstall it from scratch.

This is sometimes a tricky thing. You must get to communicate with the router though. Got any instructions with it?
