How can I fix my Singer 626 bobbin ?

Somehow as I start sewing, my bobbin goes crazy and locks up. I've got to really pull my material out, and the thread from the bobbin is all knotted and bunched up. What am I doing wrong?

I can thread my bobbin just fine. It's only when I sew that it jams up.

Thanks!

Hello Michelle,
If you are quite happy with the way the bobbin is then it must be the top tension, check the threading up, it is easy to make a mistake, make sure the presser foot is up when you thread the machine so the tension discs are open, with the top tension set around number 5 it should be okay I spent 15 years with Singer and you will be surprised how the simplist thing will catch you out.

Hello Michelle,
Either you have not threaded te machine properly or the thread has not gone between the tension discs, or the top tension is too loose, or you do not have the bobbin in the correct way round, or you have the bobbin in the correct way round but the thread has not gone through the spring to get the tension, or the bottom tension is too loose, have you put a new needle in lately ? if you have, is it the correct way round with the flat side to the back ?
