Unfortunately the machine has to be emptied of excess water and tipped on its side. There are six screws around the edge that need to be undone. They're quiet tricky as the legs / feet are in the way but I managed to get 5 of and twist the bottom off and leave it hanging by the last screw.
The waste pump is a little white thing that connects almost directly to the sump area where the filters fit in .
