Ford 6006E Error code 4! A FIX?

Just got a new car, a 2001 Mondeo, with the 6006E Radio Cd changer.

Tried to load CD's and got the usual E4 message.

So i looked on this site and found a soloution.

1. Remove the radio using the keys (got mine from dealer for free).
2. Remove all the cables.
3. Unscrew the top 2 screws. These are an odd sized star shaped screw head and i had to buy a screw driver from halfords, a Professional Screwdriver 60mm x T8 star. (£3.49).
4. Remove top cover.
5. Replace cables (dont put cover on)
6. Load a Disc.
7. Press Eject.
8. Disc will half eject itself and the arm with the laser led will remain visible.
9. Use a cotton bud and some regular camera or spactacle lens cleaner and gently clean the lens.
10. Reload the disc.
11. It shpuld now play.
12. Replace cover.
13. Push the Player back into the slot.

I did this and it worked 1st time. This is much cheaper than goinf to Ford, who will charge you £200 to look at it and repair, however if the repairs are less than £200 they will give you the difference.

this worked for me as well, great tip, I knew it could be this fault, but I was dishearted about it being difficult to access. This tip showed me how easy it was. I used 4 long and thin nails to pry it out without much difficulty.

Thank you very much, my cd player worked when it felt like it, didn't work at all or hiccuped its way through a cd. Followed your instructions and its working perfectly, just for the price of a screw driver, saved me a lot of money as I had considered sending it away and was quoted about £80 just to have it looked at.

I've been getting CD Error 4 on my 9006 for ages and it's really been getting me down as I don't really like the radio and love playing my CD's. Anyway, I've tried the above, and after about 1.5 years of CD Error 4, plus my CD seemingly unable to play some Infiniti Lightscribe disks, since Saturday (now 2 days) when I tried the above, all is well and even the Lightscribe disks are finally playing. I have been writing to audio repair companies and have sent the CD player off before at a cost of £70 to have the issue fixed, and it last about 6 months before the error came back again. They said normally it just needs a clean, so I suspect I paid £70 for the above.... now with the right tools, I can do it myself! Will let you know in a week or so if I'm still having an issue or not, but it's looking good so far and as yet, not one cd error 4 has been seen.

Thanks for the above!

Thankyou, thankyou thankyou - have not had the player working for 12 months, and one small repair in the carpark after buying the T8 and kids are delightedly listening to nursery rhymes again - poor me!
