Mower cord doesn't seem to spin fly wheel, no tension?

Murray push mower (2 yrs. old). When I pull the cord, there does not seem to be any tension normally associated with spinning the flywheel. Is the connection broke? How would I fix this?

I don't know what kind of motor you have on that mower. Let me know that and I will tell you what to look for that causes this problem. Realy easy fix if you can tell me the motor maker. B/S have a drive post in the middle of the recoil head that has 5 ball bearings that lock in place to turn the fly wheel. They may be sticking. Try spraying w/d 40 in the hole in the top of the drive post. If it is a toumckie? there is a plastic finger in the recoil top that may be sticking. Take the top off the mower and clean the trash out of the top and try pulling the rope with the top off. there should be two fingers that come out when you pull the rope. Sure hope this helps.

we are having he same problem we have a murray push mower and the rope is not spinning the flywheel, we bought a new rope and the spring wire that goes in the flywheel, but we cannot figure out how to get the flywheel apart to put the spring in. We were told it just needs a new spring wire, but how to put it in I don't know.
