can i power down mains electric at consumer unit without activating alarm?

My domestic alarm system is mains wired into the consumer unit. I wish to add another electric ring circuit to the consumer unit and obviously need to power down. Can I do this some how without activating the alarm ? The system is a Veritas 8.

The system should have a backup battery, so that should you have a power cut the alarm will still work.
As you are going to be working on the electrics, when you switch the power off the battery will take over, besides that, as long as you dont tamper with any of the alarm, there's no reason why it should sound when not in "Set" condition.

no the alarm has an external battery backup and assumes someone has cut the power and activates itself,which has to be reset even after switching mains back on.easiest way is to only power off the cooker circuit
