Problem with JVC XV-S302 DVD Player?

I have a JVC XV-S302 DVD Player and the problem I have is that the stand by light stays on all the time.
I am unable to get past this phase to play any DVD' s no matter how many times I press the button

Any ideas ?

I had the same problem. Fixed it by replacing a faulty capacitor. It had a swelling top. Look here to identify a faulty capacitor: http://www.badcaps.net/ident/
