Hotpoint WD61 Stops part way through program?

Getting fed-up; I've tried all my usual standbys, but I cant find the problem. The machine was stopping part way through the wash cycle and not agitating the drum. I traced a failed heater element and replaced it together with the door switch, which I knew occasionally failed. Now the water warms up BUT the thing still wont agitate and wont move on. Pressure switch is OK, motor will turn sometimes on other cycles and it fills/empties fine. Even the bearing feels fine!

I've just replaced the controller ( my "nothing else works" solution ) with a repaired unit, but still nothing! Now I'm puzzled.

Is there another sensor I've not yet visited? Any way to check the feed to the motor before I try to replace that?

Oh yes you can get the other brush out of the machine without undoing the motor mounts!

just use an angled pair of tweezers to unlock the plastic clip and slide the little devil out! Unhook the back drum spring if you need a bit more leeway.

You know how murphy's law works - it's always the inaccessible bit that's had it

Fixed it!!!

One of the motor brushes ( the one you cant get out with the motor in the machine ) was gone. It wasnt agitating properly during the fill cycle so wasnt filling properly and part way through the cycle the pressure switch would click out again.

That's three faults I had to fix - heater was blown ( open-circuit ), the door-interlock was intermittent and the brushes were worn. Still, a fairly cheap selection this time!

The new heater came with a new thermostat... but it's got to be worth a try! Wouldnt be the first time a new part worked less well then the old one!

If yours is the washer with the thermostat on it ... try that.
