Why does my "Start" light flash and the dishwasher jam?

I have a Whirlpool ADP962. Every 5-8th wash, the dishwasher jams up and the Start light flashes. The cycle is not complete, the dishes are still dirty. I have to reset the machine and start again - what a waste of electricity and water! Can anybody help?

I have had similar problems. Suddenly, green light started to flash with no particular reason.
After some research Start light flashing denotes machine malfunction. This afternoon I started to dig and discovered, that the reason is activation of water flood prevention sensor. Sensor sits in the lowest areas of the water collection bowl in the button of the dish washer. When there is 5-8 mm of water, sensor is activated.
Water can come from condensation or from licking. So I have removed water for now and will check if there is more after some time. If so, than I'll investigate where licking comes from.

Hi - I also have an ADP962 and I have discovered that it is very sensitive to the angle of the surface it is on. If it is sloping down slightly from back to front then the green light keeps flashing and you can't stop it. It is much happier if it is sloping slightly downwards from front to back. Try putting a spirit level on the top surface and adjusting the feet and see what effect it has.

May I join you, I have exactly the same problem you are having.
I don't know what's wrong with it or the cause of it, but this is what I do - when the cycle is stopped and the start button is flashing (which means dw error). I hold the start button for a few seconds and it will skip that current wash cycle and go to the next one. If that doesn't continue, I return the program knob back to prewash cycle and hopefully the dishes are clean by then.

Hope this helps.
