hi help!!! my cistern fillls to high and there is a constant dripping from the handle , how do i stop it doing this someone suggested i bend the arm down , but i wanted to check with a proffesional before i wreck the thing!

If the arm from the inlet unit is metal then you can bend it down wards to adjust the final water level. usually the problem is else where. Does the float ball contain water? if so it needs replacing. Does the water shut off if you raise the float arm ? If not it could be a faulty valve washer or just dirt in the valve. If the water does shut off when the arm is raised and the arm is plastic, then the ball at the end maybe adjusted downwards or there is asmall plastic nut and thread near the valve that will adjust the movement of the arm, plastic arms only.

Hi Sue, if the arm is metal u can try to bend it down,but if this prob has happened recently it suggests that the rubber seal is damaged & continues to let in water regardless of the position of the ballcock (float),so i reckon a new seal kit is needed. The entire internals can be had from B&Q for about £10 so it may be better to replace the lot if yours is old,they are simple to fit & replace the old type easily.
