We have two light fittings in the lounge. I have fitted one following instructions to isolate the red wire and connect the brown, blue and green/yellow but am unable to actually switch the light off at the wall switch. As yet I have not fitted the second light fitting - there is no red wire coming from this ceiling rose.

It sounds as if you have connected it to the main feed rather than the switched wire. Better get an electrician in.
