It happened to mine. All it was, is a black rubber diaphragm about the size of 50 pence piece that was worn and needed replacing. It was situated in the plastic column that holds your ball cock. He just emptied the tank undid a plastic nut and replaced it. I guess you can buy the diaphragm from your local DIY shop for not very much
