potterton EP2000 (old brown one) problem - CH always on ???

I have a Potterton EP2000 - problem is when i try to put the HW slider on any setting i.e twice/ once/ 24hrs, the CH is coming on even though the CH slider is in the OFF position !! Is the problem with the control panel ? as even when i turned my wall thermostat in my hallway right down the radiators still got hot even though the CH setting on the Potterton control panel was in the OFF position ( but had the HW set at once/twice/ 24 hrs setting. ) Central Heating is only OFF if the HW switch is OFF. The boiler ( Potterton Netaheat Profile 50E) hasnt been in use for a long time as property has been empty for over 2 years. Please please advise if you can. Many thanks.

Some honeywell valve have a small spring loaded lever on them which can be used to manually operate the valve. Although not the cause of your problem, if you have left this EP2000 for a long period its worth checking the internal battery for corrosion. Press screwdriver into slot at bottom of unit and push up, swing up panel to release. Should be replaced every 5 years, batteries are freely available Varta mempac, may have either a green or blue colour body.

my guess is that the motorised control valve is not functioning. remove the motorised mch from the valve and try to turn the valeve assy by hand or with a spanner etc.if you can move it ok then the motorised mech is faulty.the motors do fail.they can be purchased online as a separate part.you can also buy the complete part at great expence from most hardware outlets.
