How do I install new battery?

I have a Monitronics Vista security system, and bought a new battery. How do I get the system to recognize the new battery? The system beeps twice about every 10 minutes, but no unususal codes appear on the panel.

Power the system down and plug up the battery and then
plug transformer back in
