I have the same problem too with my camera but thanks to reading answers here I will be sending mine back to the repair center.

This happened to our camera, as well -- same model, same problem. We did qualify for the free repair and sent it in. The turn-around time was over 4 weeks -- maybe as long as 6 (!) -- but did not cost anything. Now, about 10 mos later, it has happened again!! What's the deal?? Wouldn't they fix it with a non-faulty new chip?? I would like to argue for a whole new camera, this is ridiculous.

Ive got the same same problem i have the same model also that i bought a couple of years ago. I called JVC customer service they gave me a serial number to get my miniDV repaired under the CCD program exactly like Ray Peate said.

So ur camcorder is qualified for free repair !

That "sounds" (!!!) like a faulty CCD chip - will need to be returned to JVC repair centre - BUT may not cost a penny since a number of CCD's were faulty on a number of cameras: for example, I've just had mine replaced on my Sony digital stills camera (4 years old) for free by the Sony repair centre. I am aware that some JVC camcorders suffered the same problem and qualified for a free repair!
