My alarm is going off in rain and thunderstorms?

I have a 98 subaru impreza, 4 door, 4 wheel drive and I asked a mechanic about this problem and he said the moisture in the wires are creating a short that will eventually stop the car from starting. He also said it would cost about $100-$150 for uninstalling (and labor). Is there anyway I can do it myself? I'm going to ask one of my guy friends if they can do it but I want the experience...because I feel like so dumb sometimes when it comes to cars.

Trying to find an electrical short of this kind will be virtually impossible without a manufacturers wiring diagram.
My advice is to bite the bullet and pay a qualified auto electrician or a dealer to trace it.
