Hotpoint Aquarius Ultima 1000 DeLuxe WM23 - Bearing replacement?

Hotpoint Aquarius Ultima 1000 DeLuxe WM23 (P?) - 8 years old

The drum is noisy (quite a rumble when turned with the drive belt removed) and there is what I consider to be excessive play in it (approx 6mm at the door opening) so I presume the bearings have gone.
I can obtain a bearing kit (with seals) for £19.95

Question is, how easy is it to change a set?
Does the tub have to be removed?
Do I need any special tools?
Does anyone know of a "How To" anywhere?

I'm about to try and do the same thing to mine. I have exactly the same symptoms, noisy when spinning and excessive play in the bearings. My machine is fairly old so I don't mind getting stuck into it and having a go at replacing them.

I'll keep you posted on how I get on.

Is the Hotpoint bearing tool kit required for this?
Can an off the shelf bearing pullers do the same job?

You need a Hotpoint bearing removal tool. If the bearings are badly corroded it may not be possible to remove them, and a complete tub is necessary, (or a new machine if it's 8 yo).
With the tool it is not necessary to remove the tub.
