Zanussi FJ1295 :Programme unit going too fast , missing steps?

We have a Zanussi System 1200/FJ1295. The program(timer) knob doesn't progress at the usual pace. If you set up a program the sequence is stepped through very fast and what should take 45 mins takes a couple of minutes and of course the programme hasn't been performed properly. Does this look like a timer problem or can something else cause the same symptoms. I should add that if you set the knob to say spin or drain then nothing is done.
Awaiting anxiously for an answer.

Hi Charlie, yes sound 90 % timer related they use small gogs internally once they start to wear they slip around and finish the cycle very fast.

if it does happen to agitate check that it is forward and reversing also if its draining its a good sign.

replace timer and u should be set.
