How can I remove the lid of the cistern?

Ho do you remove the lid to the cistern? We were told to unscrew the ring around the two push buttons. That is proving to be impossible. Is that correct or can you tell me what to do?

You have been given the right advice, it will have been installed "handtight" so shouldnt present too much of a problem. Remember turn left to loosen / right to tighten
