I have a veritas R8 but cannot set it because i've forgotten the code. How do I change the code if I don't know the existing one?

you silly monkey forgetting the code. you need to know the code to change it to another, there is also a way to do it throught he engineers code but you wont know that either as the installer put it in.

you need an engineer to reset the NVM should cost about 45 quid im in manchester if you need help
