The charger light comes on but the screwdriver does not work after being charged the battery indecater does not light up any ideas to what the problem might be

Dead battery.

This can be caused by letting the battery discharged for to long. Once the battery is totaly drained, you MUST recharge within the next few hours.

Also, leting the battery connected to the chager when they are fully charged WILL damage them.

You need to replace the battery. Check the price as a new battery may cost more than a new screwdriver.
