Alarm panel is not responding?

I set my Optima XM alarm today and it went off whilst I was out. Upon returning I entered the code and checked which zone had been triggered. "Attack" was lit and I pressed reset but I have not been able to do anything with the panel - the power light is read and attack is red. The buttons do not "beep" when pressed and nothing seems to be working.

what colin(another 1) has said is correct but he failed to mention if you remove the cables from the 'PA' terminals on the panel you will need to fit a perminant link across them. And as he has stated if that doesn't work then it sounds like a faulty panel - good luck

Attack buttons can be self locking. Using reset on the panel will only work once the button itself has been reset.
If all else fails, you could disconnect the attack button from the panel, but this would leave you with diminished security.

Finally, if none of the above sorts it, you may need to call the alarm engineer to replace the panel.
